The highest point on historic California State
Highway 49 (7^2), so named for the "49er" gold miners of
1849 (43^2). The highway, also dubbed "The Gold Rush Trail,"
connects several of the gold mining towns in the foothills
of the Sierra Nevada Range. [Green]
