Glossary: Prime Pages: Top 5000: A Wagstaff prime is a prime of the form (2p+1)/3. They appear in the new Mersenne conjecture and have applications in cryptography. Named after Samuel S. Wagstaff, Jr., a professor of computer science at Purdue University.
