GIMPS has discovered a new largest known prime number: 282589933-1 (24,862,048 digits)

+ (8839, 8893) is the larger of only two pairs of 4-digit primes formed by inserting a double-digit prime p between the digits of its next prime q and by inserting q between the digits of its previous prime p, case (p=83, q=89). The other pair is (2239, 2293). [Loungrides]
