GIMPS has discovered a new largest known prime number: 2^{82589933}1 (24,862,048 digits)
Just showing those entries submitted by 'Schiffman': (Click here to show all) The first prime p for which the next prime is exactly 1000 larger. Of the one dozen primes discovered by Bertil Nyman in 2001 and 2002 whose immediate successors are 1000 larger, the first of these (22439962446379651) is the only such prime which is the greater element in a twin prime pair, illustrating the dichotomy that prime gaps can be very small on the one hand and very large on the other.
