GIMPS has discovered a new largest known prime number: 282589933-1 (24,862,048 digits)

+ 5897 is prime. Keller, Buell, and Young found that
5897 * 222619 + 1 is prime, but
5897 * 2n + 1 is composite for 0 < n < 22619.
Yura found that
5897 * 2111491 + 1 is prime.
Note that both 22619 and 111491 are the smaller members of twin prime pairs. [Melo]
