GIMPS has discovered a new largest known prime number: 282589933-1 (24,862,048 digits)

+ This 5749-digit prime is both a 'near-repdigit' (with all digits but one alike) and a palindrome. It is formed by concatenating (stringing together) 2874 9s, a 2, and 2874 9s. Harvey Dubner discovered it in 1989. [Dobb]
