GIMPS has discovered a new largest known prime number: 2^{82589933}1 (24,862,048 digits) The first known nontrival executable prime. This number, when written in base 256, is functionally equivalent to a compiled version of Charles Hannum's tiny C implementation of deCSS. Proved prime by Phil Carmody on 10 September 2001.
