GIMPS has discovered a new largest known prime number: 282589933-1 (24,862,048 digits)

+ Written as 1315 9s, one 2, and 1315 9s, this 2631-digit number is both a palindrome and a "near-repdigit" prime. It was found to be prime by Harvey Dubner in 1989. [Dobb]
